The temporary file, below, was created from several sources and is unverified. It will be placed on the World Wide Web on April 15, 2003 and removed in a few weeks. [10/05/06 - Well so much for a few weeks - The mystery deepens. as you will see on other parts of the Web Site, we have not placed our Harter within a particular family. Bob Harter has some extensive research that indicates that Johann Georg Harter is NOT descended from Andreas "Chief Baliwick" Harter. We also don't know who Eva really is or if there is a connection to the Moahwk Valley Harters of New York.]
The web page was generated using Legacy Family Tree (v 3.0). The Legacy program is very powerful. It chews through huge .GED files, but the improper format of some GEDs do not carry source files through to the general notes. It was not always possible to keep original numbering when multiple files were combined.
I will be looking for a program that has the power of Legacy but which leaves the source .GED files intact. In that search, we have expanded Project Xerxes to proteomics, ontology, and other projects on supercomputers. However, that leaves less people to work on the original project and some deadlines have been missed.
Initial sources came from reports created by Byron Harter; modified converted to electronic format, researched and enhanced by Robert Harter ( http://users.myexcel.com/rharter/ancestors/index.htm ). Project Xerxes was based on Mr. Harter's identity challenge that we have not cracked. Most of the researchers have NO background in Genealogy.
Other sources (the tip of the iceberg) include:
Smith/Mikesell line: http://www.gencircles.com/users/arizona61 (Wendy Bridges)
Amanda Myers WV Family: http://www.gencircles.com/users/bubblesam07/2
Our Family http://www.gencircles.com/users/york/6 (L Crockett/York)Brigitte Gastel Lloyd's Worldroots pages are great resources for European and Royalty. The site is entertaining whether or not you can tie your family to this site. The other part of the challenge was to find a path similar to Brigitte's line to Khshayarsha I (Xerxes), King of Persia
This is a temporary draft, I must still reference information that comes from the Bashore, Agler, Ulm, Lavery, Saylor, Neff, and many other families.
My apologies if the software did not reference your source data or if your source information was merged into someone else's data. I am retaining the original .GED files for a later attempt.
I do not have any background with LDS records or endowments. My apologies if the records do not reflect the correct information where there were multiple records.

The Ulrich Rinehart Family and Descendants 1704-1985 by Elma A Henning
No record has been found of Ulrich Rinehart, Jr, except the re could have been an Ulrich Rinehart with his family in Botetourt county, Virg inia after ca 1790.
Warren L. Rinehart of California, is a descendant of Peter Rinehart. He has a Deed made in 1796, Peter and Uly Rinehart purchased 150 acr es of land in Botetourt County on a Branch of Looney Creek. In 1850 Virginia C ensus, an Uly Rinehart, age 83 was living with a John Rinehart. In 1850 Ohio C ensus, Peter was age 86, so he, Uly and Owen may have been brothers and perhaps the sons of Ulrich Rinehart, Jr. An Owen Rinehart sold 75 acres back to Peter .
1817-1737 = age 80. Perhaps Ulrich Rinehart, Jr may have died around 1817. Peter Rinehart and his family lived there until 1817 when they moved to Preble County Ohio and settled on a farm in Secltion 29, Lanier Township. He lived n ear to Jacob, Abraham and David Rinehart, the sons of Adam Rinehart.

General Notes:Letter from Calvin R. Teel to Ivan & Juanita Thomas dated 8 june 1990.
For six years, from 1983 to 1989, My search for the history fo the Teel ancestors moved backw ards in time down many trails. It reached a dead-end when I could go no further than a Dee d for the purchase of 166 acres on Elliots Creek By Adam Teal, in 1784 in Bedford Co.,Virgin ia. There was no record of where they were married or where they came from.
For the past six months, I've requested copies of deeds on all Franklin County Teel ance stors that I didn't already have (as grantor and as grantee). Now I feel I must pass on, wit hout knowing all the answers, just what came to light. Franklin Co.,Virginia was chartered i n dec 1785, and on the first personal property tax list in 1786, the names of Adam Teal, an d Nicholas Teel were listed. With this date, I estimated that Nicholas was born before 176 5 and that Adam and Mary Teal were married before 1765, I now know that Nicholas Teal was b orn 16 June 1761, and that Adam and Mary were married on 17 June 1760. These events occurre d in York Co., pa., and these are the trails that lead mmme to find them.
Earlier this year I received copies of two deeds dated 28 sept 1802 and 29 sept 1802, i n which Adam Teal was the grantor. He sold off 334 acres for 300 pounds Virginia money, to J ohn Brower on onne (DB 4, P. 383, Franklin Co.,Va.), and the sale of 100 acres for 100 pound s to Hugh French (DB 4, P. 384). Adam Teal signed his name to both , but Mary signed with he r mark. The County Clerk who recorded each deed, wrote in over her mark the name "Modeleney" . Sixteen years earlier, neither could write their names wheen they sold off 150 acres to Th omas Watts (DB 1, pp. 109-111, Franklin Co., Va.) The County Clerk wrote over their marks "A dam Teal and Mary Teal". When these Deeds came in, I also ordered those in Samuel Teal's n ame. Samuel Teal boughht 300 acres for 400 pounds on 10 June 1793, from George and Elizabet h Spangler (DB 3, pp 190-191, Franklin Co.,Va.). Samuel Teal later sold off 260 Acres to Ske lton Taylor for 520 pounds, on 1 sept 1806. Samuel Teal and Caty Teal, his wife, Signed thei r names to this Deed as "Samuel Diel and Caty Diel". (DB 7, pp 417-418, Franklin Co., Va.).
There is no proof that Samuel Teal is related to Adam Teal, but his land was located i n the Maggotty Creek and Elliots Creek area where Adam Teal and Nicholas Teel owned their lan d. The next logical step was to look for records of Adam and Mary Modelany Diel in Pennsylva nia before 1784.
I found the marriage of John Adam Diehl to Mary Magdalena Burkhardt oon the 17 June 1760 , in York twp., York Co., Pa., on an L.D.S Library printout ordered by Mrs. Muriel Teel Coote r in May 1988. .....
I Wrote to the Pennsylvania German Society and since they only publish and do no researc h, they suggested that I contact the York co. Historical Society.... They sent me copie s of data on Adam and Maria Magdalena Diel and their parents. About this same time, Robert W . Teel, (Muriel's Brother), sent me a copy of pages 88-89 of Eighteen Century Emigrants By An nette Kunselman Burgert. (note: full citation and information is found under sources). (7 ) Peter Diel is my ancestor. Adam, Caty (Maria Catherina), and Peter Teal married their spou ses in Franklin Co., Virginia. Nicholas , Anna Maria, And Christina may have married befor e the family moved to Bedford/Franklin Co.,Va. These three marriage records have not been fo und in York co.,Pa., or in the Bedford/Franklin co. courthouses.
Harry A. Diehl published a book in dec 1989, "Diehl Families of York and Adam Counties , Pennsylvania." and has no records of Adam and Mary after the birth of their sixth child, Ma ria Catherina in 1774......
The head of the family that came to America and settled in York Co., Pa., was Johanns Ad am Diehl (Diel)(Thiel) and his wife Maria Catharina Kreischer and seven children, landin in P hiladelphia, Pa., on 27 Aug 1739, carried on the (ship) SAMUEL from Rotterdam. He was 52 yea rs old and his youngest son, Adam who married Mary, was only 5 years old. Johanns Adam Dieh l paid his families passage and in 1740 paid for 300 acres of land in York twp. and built a g rist mill and a home. His will was probated in April 1755 and his industry provided well fo r each member of his family. The Diehl's in York Co. continued acquiring land and building m ills. The Teels in Franklin Co., Virginia , did the same thing, carrying on the skills and l essons learned form their ancestor. Harry A. Diehl knows about this family line now, as I wr ote, sending copies of all the Deeds of Adam and Mary Teal in Franklin Co., and a copy of m y family unit charts from the present to the past.

Jacob is believed to be the son of Christian Snider, who was among three Sniders (Jacob, Mathias, and Christian) that arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Allen in September 1729 and settled in Earl Township, Lancaster, Pa On board this ship was a large group of German Baptists, led by Alexander Mack, one of the founders of the German Baptists or Brethren, who had fled Germany where they had been persecuted by both the Protestants and Catholics.
It appears that Jacobs father and his family settled in that part of Frederick Co MD which later became Washington County and near what is now Hagerstown, MD. In 1767 a Jacob Shnyder, (the family name was likely spelled Schneider in German) Michael Miller, Conrad Fox, Simon Stuckey and Philip Jacob Miller appear together on 10 April 1767 in Lancaster County to take the Oath of Affirmation and stated that they were all of Frederick County, MD (Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd Series, Vol 2, 467). According to Stuckey genealogy, the above Simon Stuckey's son Simon Stuckey III, married Jacob Snider's daughter, Margaret. this theory on Jacob Snider location is further reinforced by the fact that Simon Stuckey II lived and died in Frederick Co MD near Hagerstown. Furthermore, Jacob's daughter, Mary, married Jacob Studebaker, whose father, Peter Studebaker lived and died near what is now Hagerstown. Washington Co MD. It is known also that Jacob Studebaker and his wife, Mary Snider, moved from Washington Co Md to Bedford Co Pa in 1782.
By 1770 Jacob and his family had settled in Berkeley County, VA (now W VA). Jacob owned 238 acres of land on Back Creek which was purchased in three parcels. The certificate of deed for the first parcel of 140 acres was received from Lord Fairfax on 17 Feb 1773. The certificate of deed for the second parcel, containing 44 acres was made out on 5 Oct 1770 and dated 26 May 1789. The third parcel of 54 acres was made on 3 April 1779 and deeded on 13 Nov 1787.
Jacob operated a grist mill on the Back Creek property, near the area known today as Swinging Bridge, east of Jones Spring. The 1809 Charles Varle map shows a grist mill on the Snider land indicating that the mill was build earlier than 1809. When Jacob died in 1790, he willed that his son, Abraham, should receive the land when the youngest son arrives at age. Abraham died in 1845 and willed that his property, both real and personal, be sold and the mill property was sold to Robert Penery. The mill was destroyed by a flood in 1889, the same year of the famous Johnstown flood.
Jacob Snider's Will was written on 28 Nov 1787 and probated on 15 June 1790 in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co VA. Based upon a grave stone inscription located on Jacob's land, it is believed that Jacob died on 3 Mar 1790. Jacob's Will names only his wife, Margaret, and his sons, Jacob, John Abraham, David, Joseph, Daniel and William. the daughters are not named but court proceedings later identify some of them. After Jacob's death, his widow, Margaret moved to West Providence Township, Bedford Co Pa where she is listed as paying taxes until 1812 and deceased at the time of 1813 tax collection. Jacob's son, Abraham, and daughter, Hannah, who married Jacob Riner, were the only two of Jacob's children that remained in Berkeley County , Va. Jacob's other older sons (Jacob, Jr, John, David, and Joseph were each willed land that Jacob owned in Bedford Co Pa. the younger sons, (Daniel, George, and William ) did not receive any land but they shared equally in the estate.

Robert has provided a picture and reference to the burial of Jacob Snider, Sr. 1732-1790
'Jacob Snider is buried on the Old Snider Plantation near the Swinging Bridge over Back Creek. He operated a grist mill at this location. His grave marker is located near the location of the home near a farm implement storage shed. According to Mr Donald Riggs (1980) there were more graves there but thy had been trodden down by farm animals over the years. His son Abraham, who ended up with the farm after Jacob's death, is probably buried here also. Jacob's widow Margaret (maiden name unknown) moved to Bedford Co Pa with her three younger children after Jacob's death. She is buried there in West Providence Township about 1812.'

'Jacob owned 238 acres of land on Back Creek purchased in three parcels. The certificate of deed for the first parcel of 140 acres was received from Lord Fairfax on February 17, 1773. The certificate of deed for the second parcel of land containing 44 acres of land was made out on Octoer 5, 1770 and dated May 26, 1789. The last parcel of 54 acres was made out on April 3, 1779 and deeded on November 13, 1787. Jacob built and operated a grist mill on this property.'
From Robert Longbottom - Circumstancial conjecture
'Jacob's location prior to these land purchases is uncertain but current speculation indicates that he may have been living in Frederick County Maryland in 1767 when a Jacob 'Shnyder', Michael Miller, conrad Fox, Simon Stuckey and Phillip Jacob Miller appear together on April 10, 1767 in Lancaster County to take the Oath of Affirmation and state that they are all of Frederick county Maryland (Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd Series, Volume 2, 467). According to Stuckey genealogy, the above Simon Stuckey's son, Simon Stuckey III married Jacob Snider's daughter Margaret. This theory on Jacob Snider's location is further reinforced by the fact that Simon Stuckey II lived and died in Frederick County Maryland in the western portion near Hagerstown that later became Washington County in 1772. This is also true of Jacob's daughter Mary Snider that married Jacob Studebaker, since Jacob Studebaker's father Peter Studebaker aslo lived and died near what is now Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
American Revolution
According to information, handed down through family generations, Jacob was a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. In support of this family lore that Jacob provided provisions for the Army of Virginia in 1780, J T McAlister in his 'History of Berkeley County Virginia' on page 190 refers to the Virginia Order Book which recommended Jacob Snider as a lieutenant of Militia on September 18, 1871.
Jacob Snider's Will
Jacob Snider's will was written on November 28, 1787 and probated on June 15, 1790 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County Virginia. Based upon a grave stone inscription located on Jacob's land, it is believed that Jacob died on March 3, 1790 at the age of 58 which would give his birth year as 1731 or 1732. Jacob's will names only his wife Margaret and his sons Jacob, John, Abraham, David, Joseph, Daniel and William. The daughters are not named but later court proceedings identify most of them. After Jacob's death, his widow Margaret moved to West Providence Township, Bedford County Pennsylvania where she is listed as paying taxes until 1812 and deceased at the time of the 1813 tax collection. Jacob's son Abraham and daughter Hannah who married Jacob Riner were the only two of Jacob's children that remained in Berkeley County Virginia. Jacob's other older sons, (Jacob Jr, John, David and Joseph) were each willed land that Jacob owned in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. The younger sons, (Daniel, George and William) did not receive any land but they shared equally in the estate.
The Church of the Brethren
There is no documented proof of Jacob's religion but there is a great deal of German Baptist or Brethren background and influence in the family and lives of Jacob's children. The prevailing theory is that Jacob was the son of Christian Snider, who was one of the three Sniders (Jacob, Mathias and Christian) that arrived in Philadelphia on the Ship Allen in September of 1729 and settled in Earl Township, Lancaster Co Pennsylvania. On board the Ship Allen was a large group of German Baptists, led by Alexander Mack, one of the founders of the German Baptists or Brethren who had fled Germany where they had been persecuted by both the Protestants and the Catholics.

Whether or not she was the "Eva" who linked up with Johanne George Harter has never been verified, although quite possible if the first spouse died.

On the other hand, The Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Formerly St. Peter's) - Frederick Co., MD parish register 1767-1889 shows the following.
Maria Catharine Herter, B. 29 May 1771; Bapt. 29 July 1771; parents Georg. & Eva; sponsors Andreas Meixel and Catharina.
I am not sure what to make of this. Adam was the last birth I had for J. George and Eva, b. in 1768, but perhaps Byron had missed her because she died young. Andraes Meixel and Catharine were probably Eva's brother and wife, which does indicate that she belongs in Andraes and Anna Catharina (Zahner) Meixel's family.

General Notes:I am told that recent evidence shows this Eva to have married Jonas Adam (verified) 26 September 1748, Lebanon Co, PA. No further record.
Whether or not she was the "Eva" who linked up with Johanne George Harter has never been verified, although quite possible if the first spouse died.
______________________________________________________

Pfarrer Wolffhart schreibt darueber

My Life
Story by Georg Johann Wolfhardt (from the Duehren Soulbook). I,
Schoolmaster Georg Johann Wolfhardt, at present minister to the noble
Venningen estate, was born into this world at Nurtingen, in the highly
commendable principality of Wurttemberg on 15 December 1601, a little
before six o'clock in the morning. My much loved late father was the
venerable and well-learned Schoolmaster, Alexander Wolfhardt, born in
the little town of Waiblingen, who for 48 years was a truly zealous teacher
and minister--four years pastor at Strumpffelbach not far from
Schorndorff, 26 years at Nurtingen, 14 years advisor to the principality of
Wurttemberg and Abbot at the Alpirsbach Monastery in the Black Forest,
dying there in his 73rd year; and the Almighty God, on the day of rejoicing
will awaken him with all who believe, to eternal everlasting heavenly joy.
My well-beloved mother was the esteemed and virtuous Eleanora
Wolffhartin, nee Renzin, legitimate daughter of the venerable and
well-learned Heinrich Renz, who for 33 years was advisor to the
principality of Wurttemberg and Abbot at St. Georgen Monastery in the
Black Forest. My grandmother was the highly virtuous Frau Maria
Renzinn, nee Graettersin, daughter of the very esteemed and highly
educated Herr Ulrich (Kasper) Graeter. For many years Herr Ulrich and
Christoph Hertzogen were court ministers to his highness the Prince of
Wurttemberg. Through God's grace, I was born to my worthy Christian
parents. Since no human birth in this world, however pure it is, can bring
one to Salvation, I was forthwith presented for Holy Baptism in the names
of their highnesses, the Prince and Frau Ursula Herzogen of Wurttemberg;
since at the time Her Grace was unwell, I was held at Holy Baptism by the
very noble young woman Elisabetha von Karpffen, at that time a court
maiden to their highnesses, and also by the honorable and most respected
Herr Balthasar Muttschelin, at that time in the service to their graces as
overseer at Nurtingen. In Holy Baptism, the name Georg Hans was given
to me because Her Highness' late father, the Palatine count of
Lautterreckh, as well as her brother, who was staying then in Nurtingen,
was so named. From childhood I was kept in school by my aforesaid
Christian parents. At Alpirsbach, my beloved late father had a private
school for us children. I was sent to Nurtingen in 1612, to Canstatt in
1614, to the elementary school; and then, in 1616, to the high school at
Tubingen; that same year I received a scholarship. In 1619, I graduated.
In 1621, I became a schoomaster; that same year I began to study
Theology. In 1625, I went to the Kraichgau and accepted a teaching
position with Junker George Philipp von Venningen of Euchtersheim as a
tutor to his son, Friedrich Rheinhart, to inform him in manners and studies.
In 1626, I was promoted to the Euchtersheim Parish and on St. Andrew's
Day was presented to the Christian Community, and ordained in the
presence of the Reverend and well-learned Herr M. Johann Schweitzers,
pastor at Michelfeld, M. Lazari Zieglers, pastor at Neydenstein, and M.
Martini Zimmerman, pastor at Duehren. And after I performed the
pastoral duties there for seven and a half years, I was transferred by
Junker von Venningen in 1636, to Neydenstein, and from there in 1637 to
Duehren. Through the long, ruinous, highly troublesome war (Thirty Years
War), since no pastor at hand in the entire neighborhood, except the
pastor at Ravensberg, Johan Wolffgang Rabus, my true, highly trusted
brother in Christ (who died in 1662 at Sultzfeld), I was sometimes at
Steinberg, and sometimes at Sinsheim, in which places I held services;
following those villages, I was to Neydenstein, Dassbach, Eschelbronn,
Euchtersheim, Eschelbach, Darmbach, Hofen, Michelfeld, Steinsberg and
Ittlingen. Many Sundays I had to travel four or five hours to bring the
services to them. For many meals I had to partake of a good drink of
water because no drop of wine could be brought to the villages. It
happened several times that of all priests and Bavarian Clergy who heard
confession, I alone remained in the vicinity, and with the consent of the
mayor and the honorable advisors, I had to baptize several children at
Sinsheim. Since through the Almighty God, the God of Peace, Christ
Jesus, our dear Fatherland, after many tribulations at great cost, enjoyed
peace, and the villages in the area again were restored and grew stronger,
I took my leave little by little of one parish and another. First, I bid
farewell to the parishes of Neydenstein, Eschelbronn, and Dassbach on
the 8th Sunday of Trinity, 1650. Since I had overseen the parish at
Neydenstein 17 years, at Eschelbronn 16 years, and Dassbach ten years,
I gave up these three parishes, not without great sorrow, pain and anguish,
to the Reverend and well-learned Herr Petro Ursino of Speyr. I released
the Hofen parish after I had likewise overseen the same parish from
Steinsberg, Sinsheim, and Duehren for 13 years, and I entrusted it to the
Reverend and well-learned Herr M. Johan Christophors Widen, minister
at Helmstadt, my true and constant friend until his death. I left Michelfeld
on September 15, 1654 and I entrusted the parish to the Reverend and
well-educated Herr Adolpho Roselio. Also in the same year I left the
parish of Euchtersheim and turned it over to Herr Roselio on October 22.
From 1650, with the consent of the ruling family, I also looked after the
Angeloch Parish from Duehren, until Jubilate Sunday, 1658, when the
community had become strengthened and should have its own minister
who would also oversee the school. I took my leave and in my place a
pastor was ordained and the Reverend and well-educated Herr Michael
Troje was presented to the community. Since the religious services at
Eschelbach stopped after the death of Herr M. Johan Caroli, the Monk of
Hirschorn forbade all religious services from 1636 until 1647. But finally,
after humbly and imploringly beseeching the ruling family many times,
through God's grace the church again reopened and public religious
services were again permitted; and I was requested by the neighboring
community to preach for the first time the fourth Sunday after Trinity in
1647. The Almighty God will still moreover preserve this same Christian
Community by his rich Word and Holy Sacrements until the coming of the
Last Judgement. Amen. As the religious services were forbidden at
Eschelbach by the Monk of Hirschorn after the death of Herr Carolus, in
1636, I was requested by the then Mayor of Darmbach, Dietrich
Kaltman, in the name of that community, I was sometimes gone from my
house in Neidenstein three or four weeks at a time. Concerning my
married state: After I was promoted to the Euchtersheim parish by my
very gracious Junker von Venningen, I entered into Holy Matimony,
according to God's ordinance, and first I was married to the honorable
and virtuous young lady, Anna Allgaierin, legitimate daughter of the late
and Honorable and respected Hans Allgaier, citizen of Entweihingen on 11
February 1627, and lived in blessed matrimony for ten years, five months,
and one day, with her through God's blessing begat six children. After the
death of my beloved wife, I was married again, to the honorable and
virtuous young lady, Anna Burckhartin from Kochendorff, legitimate
daughter of the esteemed late Veit Burckhardt and Margaretha, her
beloved mother. The marriage was held at Ravensberg 22 February 1638,
and was performed by Johann Wolffgang Rabus, pastor there. And
through God's blessing with this my beloved wife, I have had six children.

Grueckler gewesen.

General Notes:In Murr a.d.
Marbach verbuergterten Nicolaus Mercklin verheiratet. Maier in

Mangold was named as a house owner in Stutgart. He had together with
writer Michael von Walddorf the service of mass in Magstadt as a
beneficence in 1435. He also owned a house in Pflugfelden, in 1452 2
manors in Kornwestheim and in 1447, a manor in Ossweil. In 1443, he
sealed with a writer's symbol, namely inkpot and featherpens as did in
1497 his son, Conrad. Furthermore, in 1460 he sealed with a shield with a
spring ram. It was not unusual that in respectable families 2 or even 3 seals
were in use at the same time, so for example, this was true of the Gremp,
Welling and Tegen. The seal with an inkpot is an official seal and may be

The information from this experiment will be published in a format to be determined as the experiment progresses. The project is meant to be educational and will attempt to use materials from the public domain. We will also attempt to credit the appropriate authors of materials and compilations.
While our methods of data collection, refinement and presentation are serious, this project is meant to entertain and inform the participants and and honor the contributors (both living and dead). The data sources from which we collect our information may be suspect, thus we cannot make any WARRANTIES about the accuracy of the data or the underlying sources. Relying on any materials within the Project Xerxes pages (or the pages to which the pages link) is at your own risk.
